Tour de France Starts – Where’s Bottecchia?

July 6, 2009

Another big tour, another miss for the cycling icons of Bottecchia. When will these great bikes take their rightful place on the roads of the Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia?

Should I buy an Alfa 147?

January 22, 2009

This is the big debate at chez Taze right now. There are a lot of complaints about these cars but they look great. Anyone want to share their experiences?

Happy 2009? You bet!

The official food of 2009
The official food of 2009

With everyone complaining about the world economic crisis, it’s time to look at all the positive aspects of this new year:

  • No need to worry about ever increasing house prices.
  • All those people who encouraged you to take your money out of the bank and invest it in mutual funds have been proved wrong.
  • All those people who encouraged you to take your money out of the mattress and put it in the bank have been proved wrong.
  • It’s much easier to get a table at Michelin starred restaurants.
  • Cyclists won’t have to contend with as many crazy Mercedes & BMW drivers (although congested cyclepaths may become a problem).
  • Nobody will be talking about NFL expansion to Canada anymore.
  • Maybe Toronto will finally get a pro hockey team.
  • Spam is economical and tastes great.
  • Kraft Dinner is not just for childhood, it’s for life.
  • You may be the next person/organization to receive a government bailout.

Ti-Cats End Season

November 2, 2008

Casey Printers goes out with a whimper

At last it’s over. Another useless season. Only 3 wins.

A 44-30 loss to a Winnipeg team who couldn’t care less, using the meaningless match to try out the backups.

But we learned a few more things in this last game:

  1. 1. Casey Printers is done – I had been keeping the faith but couldn’t see anything positive today.
  2. 2. No team spirit - Casey took a cheap sideline shot and Cat players stood by and watched.
  3. Adam Tafralis – looked much better than Printers (but it was junk time in a meaningless game).
  4. We need an O-line – Do I need to explain?
  5. We need a serious upgrade on defence - coaching, pass rush, defensive backs.
  6. Hero tabs – the best sponsors CHML could get for the last broadcast of the season.

Ti-Cat News Flash:

October 28, 2008

Marcel Bellefeuille named permanent Hamilton head coach

Marcel at work

Marcel at work

To quote the announcement in the Hamilton Spectator:

 Bellefeuille, 1-6 since taking over,said
he welcomes the chance to rebuild the Cats.

I like what Bellefeuille has done since he took over from Charlie ‘apathy’ Taaffe on an interm basis but I am not sure that 1 win in seven games is the greatest resumé for a professional football coach.

So what do the fan(s) think:

Who’s having the turkey for Thanksgiving?

October 10, 2008

Big Hamilton optimism for

Tiger-Cats – Alouettes clash on Thanksgiving Day

Hamilton 44 Montreal 38

What a difference a week makes. After 6 straight losses, no one had any hope (especially me) that the tabbies would offer a decent performance last week against the Montreal Alouettes – but we were all proved wrong. The Cats won a 44-38 spectacular and the stars of the show were Obie’s new crop of rookies. Rookie quarterback Quinton Porter had one of the best games since the glory days of the McManus-Flutie tandem, winning CFL offensive player of the week. Linebacker Cameron Siskowic won the CFL defensive play of the week in his first start. Plus there were three touchdown catches for first year man Prechae ‘big play’ Rodriguez. Wow.

Now we just have to repeat it on Monday afternoon at a jampacked Molson Stadium…

No News for 2009

September 16, 2008

Bottecchia’s site is still silent about any potential new road bikes

Wow - Exciting new electric bikes for 2007!

Wow - Exciting new electric bikes for 2008!

Three months after my last post about the clamorous silence from Bottecchia about the company’s plans for 2009 there is still nothing reported on the news page of the official website.

The lack of information from the company, especially for those of us hoping for a dramatic improvement in its products, is disappointing given that the major road bike producers like Wilier Triestina have already started to aggressively market their 2009 models. What we can expect when the news finally comes out however is that the advertising and bikes will feature some meaningless phrases like “built with Italian passion” and “Italian design.”

Not going down with the double-blue ship

July 10, 2008

Argos put Michael Bishop on Waivers

The news media is reporting this morning that Michael Bishop is on his way out of Toronto, leaving Kerry Joseph as the undisputed starter. Must have been some problems in the locker room. Looks like two quarterbacks are worse than one, eh? (At this point someone will point out – again – that Mike was once ahead of Tom Brady on the New England Patriots depth chart…).

Bring Back Jeremy!

July 7, 2008

TVO must revive its greatest children’s show ever!

Sure some people like The Polka Dot Door, Today’s Special, or Cucumber, all locally produced fare, but the greatest show in the early days of TVOntario featured the adventures of Jeremy, a peripatetic singing bear. Who cannot remember his enchanting song “I’m a bear called Jeremy, I can do most anything, I can dance and I can sing”? Well, today’s kids, that’s who!
